Wonder Woman Wednesday

#WonderWomanWednesday

I, like many gay men of my generation, watched and loved the Wonder Woman TV show. Lynda Carter embodied strength, intelligence, beauty and a kick-ass fashion sense. My love for the iconic character has never wavered and, over the years, I’ve collected a lot of Wonder Woman ephemera. I decided to showcase my collection on what I’m calling #WonderWomanWednesday.

Here is a Christmas ornament that I didn’t get around to posting during the holidays. This is a teeny tiny fabric replica of Wonder Woman’s costume complete with accessories (sans magic bracelets). It hangs on a little gold clothes hanger (which you would then presumably hang on your tree) and would fit an action figure approximately 5 inches tall. This is an official Hallmark ornament and I’m not sure what year it came out (I’m too lazy to look it up).

Today we have a 2.5 inch premium toy (from McDonald’s I think) of Wonder Pig! Petunia Pig (Porky’s girlfriend) is all decked out as the world’s most heroic amazon. Also featured in the early 90’s collection were Daffy as BatDuck, Bugs as SuperBugs (or SuperRabbit I guess) and a fourth character that I can’t remember.

The costume is hard plastic that clips over the figure. Here she is in her modest bathing attire.

20 assorted notecards. Five different designs, all from the comic books (of various eras). One of the card designs is on the left and the box they came in is on the right.

This is a “Belly Washer” (!?!), a kid’s bottled juice drink I found at my local grocery store in NYC. This Kool-Aid wannabe (which has 0% juice according to the nutrition label) was ‘Black Cherry Blast’ flavor. But let’s face it, no one is going to buy this for the drink, it’s all about the kick-ass packaging. The label features some really terrific artwork and a nicely sculpted bottle-top (resembling the Cartoon Network Justice League version of the character) that would prove irresistible to any kid… or middle-aged Wonder Woman collector.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… and today’s selection is a Wonder Woman xmas tree ornament from ye olde (meaning sadly defunct) WB Store. I’m not a particularly fussy collector and I rarely keep anything in it’s original packaging, but in this case I picked up these two pieces on holiday clearance and one stayed in it’s little box (which is pretty dinged up thanks to my less than optimal storage methods).

Today we have a seasonal selection, an ornament Jeff just bought me (It’s from Target). Happy Holidays!
