Today is Paul Newman’s birthday. Turner Classic Movies will be celebrating the occasion by running several of his best performances. I recommend that you rent two of his soapiest (and therefore campiest) films. In The Long Hot Summer, Paul plays a southern boy who woos the frosty Joanne Woodward. In From the Terrace, Paul plays a yank who again must woo frosty Joanne. This Newman/Woodward double feature is sure to please any fan of classic melodrama. If the temp has dropped into the single digits (like here in NY) where you live, I suggest you start with Long Hot Summer, it’s a guaranteed cure-all for the winter blahs.
