The casting for the film Mamma Mia just gets stranger all the time. A couple months back it was announced that Meryl Streep would play the lead. Yesterday word came that Pierce Brosnan would play one of the men who could be the father of Meryl’s daughter. This means that in a year or so, we will get to hear Meryl and Pierce sing a duet of the classic ABBA song “S.O.S.”
Brosnan said this to Variety: “I said yes right away because it meant working with Meryl Streep. Secondly, I saw the show with my family in London, and found it just so wonderfully happy and joyful, and so pitched in time forever in the 1970s. What a kick in the pants, to be able to go off and spend time with Meryl on some Greek island, singing ABBA songs.”
Time will tell if audiences find the film to be a kick in the pants…
