Word around the rink is that the Division 7 playoffs will be top 8 teams and the Ordinals clinched 8th place last night with a 3-2 win over the Sled Dogs. It was a heated battle too because both teams wanted that 8th slot… for us it was also a critical rematch since we narrowly lost to the Sled Dogs just two weeks ago. Of course that means in a couple weeks we will be up against the Flyers again, but we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.
Last night’s game was truly Division 7 hockey as it should’ve been played. The Sled Dogs only had a couple of higher-level guys on the ice, and we only had one. (I hope this is more what the division comes and that the rink is able to get both Division 7 and 8 more under control in terms of the level of players playing there.) We were also short, playing 11 people instead of 13. The team pulled together great and played a pretty consistent positional and passing game.
I was very pleased with my game last night. It was my third week in a row as center and I had some solid play, including several scoring opportunities (if only the goalie hadn’t gotten in the way).
Next week the Ordinals are off, but the Tigers are playing. We’ve got the late game next week against the Rockets. Afterwards we’re going to do another coached practice like we did a few weeks back. I’m looking forward to that, it’s always great to get some coaching, especially in a game play situation.
In two weeks the Ordinals are back to wrap up the regular season, which is also the same week the Tigers wrap the season too. Let the planning for spring begin!
