According to the latest issue of Writer’s Digest, LGBT literature has finally “arrived”. Um, okay. The article mainly focuses on the mainstreaming of the genre and how it has slowly begun to reach a wider (i.e. hetero) audience. It’s nice that the piece takes a “half full” view of the future of LGBT books when so many have been touting the death of gay literature for years. I did get the feeling though that the author wasn’t terribly familiar with the subject at hand. The article literally begins with “We’re here! We’re queer! Get used to it!” (Oy), goes to great pains to explain the GLBT acronym to clueless straights (Double Oy), and makes reference to The Lambda Rising Book Report (Nice, but try again).
Oh well, visibility is what counts… isn’t that what they say?
