It was a great start to the 2009 spring hockey season last night. The Wizards and Tigers both opened with wins that were very hard fought.
The Wizards started the night beating the Tsunami 3-1. We’ve got a solid rivalry with the Tsunami, going back and forth and basically taking turns winning games. Last night was our turn. We opened strong and ended the game winning 3-1. Tsunami poured it on with some impressive new skaters, but we held our own, skated with them and played smart so that we were able to come out on top. Hopefully this is a sign of our season to come.
I had a great time last night. The Wizards got some solid new skaters and the feeling on the bench was a fun one. In fact, I’m not sure when I’ve had such a fun game. The defensive crew, in particular, seemed to have a great vibe all our own. I played pretty well last night too. The one goal against didn’t come on my watch, which I was glad about. I had a couple of glitches along the way, but they were recoverable either by myself or with assists from others.
I went from that straight into the Tigers game, which was very fast paced. We only had 11 players and I found myself at center last night, which I haven’t played in a while. It was fun though. I played better there than I thought I would, actually helping to push forward on offense from time to time. We beat the Rockets 4-3 in OT shootout (yay Adam for getting the shootout goal that won it for us).
The game was exhausting because the Rockets never let up and it was a bit out of sorts doing the center thing. I was pretty pleased, although I did have a gaffe that resulted in the first goal against for us. I was out for the second goal against too.
In other news… I didn’t play with the Ordinals last night but they also won their season opener (yay!).
Next week I have to skip the Wizards because they play early and I’ve got AFC work in Brooklyn. I’ll definitely be with the Tigers and hopefully with the Ordinals (if they’ve got the space).
