The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre is one of the most spectacular modern dance companies in the world. Founded by Alvin Ailey in 1958, Ailey choreographed many works for the troupe until he passed away in 1989. Today the company, and its extensions, continue under the direction of one of it’s own founding dancers, Judith Jamison. Here’s a reel that previews some of the extraordinary work the company has performed. It’s the perfect preview to the rest of the Ailey-themed week.
