Last Thursday I Tweeted this after reading some of the Dancing with the Stars season 11 casting rumors: “Please be false. Kate Gosslin was bad enough. And this might be worse. RT @JustJared Bristol Palin: ‘DWTS’ Bound?: http://goo.gl/fb/ozkGp”
I already had some apathy about the upcoming season. Season 10 was a mixed bag that at least ended with Derek and Nicole winning the mirror ball trophy, but also made us suffer through way to much Kate Gosslin and embarrassing things that Buzz Aldrin had to do. Plus, after a stunning season of So You Think You Can Dance, I’m not sure I’m ready for amateur hour again, especially if the stars aren’t interesting.
Twelve new stars were announced last night and only one-third of them piqued my interest to any degree: Margaret Cho is awesome! Florence Henderson is bound to make some good TV. Jennifer Grey should be fun. I expect good things from Brandy too.
Then there’s the third I have no interest in whatsoever (and some of these people should not be considered “stars”): The Hills’ Audrina Patridge and Jersey Shore‘s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino are people I don’t want to watch in any scenario. David Hasselhoff could be okay to watch, but too often these days it seems like he’s become a characiture of himself. Then there’s Bristol Palin… I can’t imagine what that’s going to be like. Her inclusion redefines “stars,” and not in a good way.
Of course there are also contestants that I have no opinion on because I’m not that familiar with them: NFL’er Kurt Warner, Kyle Massey from Disney Channel’s Cory in the House and NBA star Rick Fox. These are neither good or bad, they are just there. They could turn out to be great fun (like Nicey Nash) or people I can’t wait to see voted off (like Master P).
Michael Bolton falls into a category all his own. Obviously I know who he is. However, he doesn’t drive my interest in the show, nor does he make me cringe.
Now that the announcement’s out, I’m still in the “not-very-excited” camp. I hoped for some stunning casting news that would make DWTS sizzle for me. But that didn’t happen. I’m sure I’ll watch, likely always time delayed with a lot of fast forwarding. I don’t think it will be a weekly blog either since I’m not sure I want to invest that kind of time in this batch of stars. I’ve still got a few weeks to make a final decision on that since season 11 of Dancing with the Stars doesn’t begin until September 20.
