I’m not sure this is a good thing. I was in Borders yesterday and my eye caught a new release of Pride & Prejudice and it’s looking very Twilight with the white and red flowers. It’s billed as “The love that started it all.”
Will then mentioned that he’d seen a copy of Wuthering Heights, also with a Twilight-like cover and branded as “Bella and Edward’s Favorite Book.” I didn’t see this in the store yesterday, but as you can see I was able to find the cover online.
Researching this I’ve also seen a copy of Romeo and Juliet sporting a similar cover and I wouldn’t be surprised if there are other books doing this.
Is this a good thing? I suppose if it gets Twilight‘s young readers to sample classic literature it’s good. But it also seems cheap that the classics have to resort to such tactics to get noticed. What do you other book lovers think?
Wuthering Heights I can see, and maybe even Romeo and Juliet. But Pride and Prejudice? Sort of at the opposite end of the spectrum, isn’t it? Seems like false advertising.
