Jeff kicks off the week with news that the Hat Trick Box Set has gone into wide release. The guys also announced that the podcast has been selected to be a GRL Featured Blogger ahead of the GayRomLit event in October. Authors attending GRL will start appearing on the podcast in June.

Will talks about the Hot Dudes Reading book, while Jeff reviews two books he recently finished: Joe Okonkwo’s Jazz Moon and Scott Pomfret’s The Second Half: A Gay American Football Story. They guys also talk about an essay Brandon Witt posted on Love Bytes detailing where he’s at in his efforts to be a full time author.

Dreamspinner’s marketing director Poppy Dennison stops by to talk about Book Expo America/Book Con before Jeff and Will welcome author/actor/storyteller Charlie David to talk about the re-release of his book Mulligans along with some other projects he’s working on.

The guys open with discussion of Jeff’s writing accomplishments this week–a manuscript turned in to the publisher, another manuscript through first draft and preparing to plot out three other novels. They also apologize to the video audience for the issues with episode 31’s video feed.

Jeff’s in the middle of reading Joe Okonkwo’s Jazz Moon and recommends people pick it up for pre-order. Jeff & Will briefly lament the upcoming closing of QUEERCentric Books.

Pop culture takes over as Will talks about Entertainment Weekly articles featuring newly out actor Colton Haynes and the lack of LGBTQ representation in super hero films. The glut of renewals and cancellations of some of their favorite shows are discussed before some quick recaps of Dancing with the Stars and The Voice, which are headed towards season finales on May 23. They also talk about Inside Out, which they’ve finally seen.

Brandilyn from Prism Book Alliance stops by to recommend a YA sci-fi series she’s into from R.G. Thomas. Then Justin Syde talks about the Gay Sex Positions Coloring Book and the upcoming Pride: A Coloring Book.

Big Gay Fiction Podcast – Episode 31 – Tony Awards, Video Content & More

For the first time in weeks the guys manage a podcast without an interview segment–meaning nearly all the talk is theirs!

Jeff kicks it off with news about how his writing is going, then it’s a final shout out to Tammy Middleton’s Author’s Sign Off for Autism Awareness, which raised more than $3,000 dollars for Autism Speaks.

Will reviews The Cattle Baron’s Bogus Boyfriend by Nicki Bennett. The Tony Award nominations came out and Jeff & Will spend some time dissecting them before moving on to discussions of The Real O’Neals, superhero shows and the delightful comedy, The Intern. Archie Comics also gets a shout out for its upcoming series featuring gay character Kevin Keller, who will  also show up in the CW’s pilot for Riverdale.

Lisa from The Novel Approach stops by with book recommendations from Jordan L. Hawke, Andrea Speed, Charlie David and S. Hunter Nisbet.

Jeff discusses the idea of authors using video-based content, as well as seeing reviewers in the romance genre producing video reviews. Will recaps some of the learning he’s doing–including a book about romance writing from Gwen Hayes and a course from Dean Wesley Smith.

Big Gay Fiction Podcast – Episode 30 – Jeff Garvin Interview, Joyfully Jay Talks RT & More

It’s a big anniversary show this week!

Jeff & Will celebrate 21 years since their first date, the podcast celebrates six months and Dreamspinner Press celebrates nine years in business with a week long sale of books from authors who started with them during their first three years (which includes Jeff). Jeff also talks about the decent writing month he had in April and that Tammy Middleton’s Authors “Sign Off” for Autism Awareness Auction ended with a $110 bid for the Hat Trick books.

Jeff will be on the WROTE podcast on Friday, May 6. The guys also gave a shout out to their friend David LaBounty whose Bookstores & Baseball zine was written up on Minor League Baseball’s website and that David had written a nice piece about BGFP on his The First Line Facebook page. The writeup included the instructions for the a BGFP drinking game.

Will reviews two books: The Unstable Stud by Ariel Tachna and Duke in Hiding by M.J. O’Shea. They guys also discuss the upcoming second season of Lifetime’s UnReal and the webseries they caught this past week, UnReal: The Faith Dairies, which focuses on the lesbian character, Faith.

Jay from Joyfully Jay stops by to discuss a couple of LGBTQ panels from the recent RT convention and gives some book recommendations. Then Jeff welcomes Jeff Garvin, author of Symptoms of Being Human to the show to talk about the book, his writing process, Stephen King and more.

The guys kick off with an acknowledgement of Prince’s death and call out the appreciation CBS Sunday Morning offered. Listeners are also reminded that this is the last week of Tammy Middleton’s Authors “Sign Off” for Autism Awareness auction as bidding closes on Saturday, April 30.

Jeff reviews The Role by Richard Taylor Pearson before the guys get into talking about this week’s The Voice and Dancing with the Stars. They also gave a shout out to the Pride Coloring Book, from the same team that created the Gay Sex Positions Coloring Book, which is having a GoFundMe campaign to get it off the ground.

Next up Jeff & Will interview Donnie & Greg, the guys behind the Bureau of General Services-Queer Division, a book store, gallery and event space inside the LGBT Center in New York City. After the interview the guys reveal that Donnie and Greg are part of the new team of contributors for the podcast which also includes bloggers Joyfully Jay, Love Bytes, The Novel Approach, Prism Book Alliance and QUEERCentric Books.
